Making Notes

Getting started

Therapy normally starts with an initial 90 minute consultation. This session will allow us to discuss your concerns in depth. If you would like to continue we would then jointly agree upon a treatment plan.

The initial consultation is attended by different members of the family depending on each case.

If you are concerned about a child under the age of 12, it is advisable for both parents or carers to attend (if possible) prior to the child attending. This will allow us to collect all the relevant information and talk through any sensitive material.

For children between the ages of 12 and 15, parents can attend the initial consultation with or without their child.

For young people 16 years old and over, it is recommended that they attend on their own. This will enable them to own the space and know that therapy is confidential. However, a parent can attend if the young person would like to have their support.

If you are concerned about your child and they do not want to engage, I can also offer parent work which can help you understand family dynamics and allow us to indirectly support your child.

The above are general guidelines for what is recommended in the initial consultation; however, we can discuss your specific case and needs.

Follow up sessions are 45 minutes.
